Where to stay for birding near Bear Rocks Preserve
Bear Rocks Preserve is a Nature Conservancy tract of about 480 acres at the northern edge of Dolly Sods in Grant County, on the lip of the Allegheny Front. Wind-stunted spruce, sandstone outcrops and heath barrens sit above a 3,000-foot drop toward the South Branch valley, and it is the most photographed sunrise spot in the Potomac Highlands. Forest Road 75 reaches the parking area on rough gravel.
