The Cheat River forms at Parsons where the Shavers Fork and Black Fork meet, then runs north through Preston and Monongalia counties into Cheat Lake. The Cheat Canyon below Albright is a Class III to V spring whitewater run and the Cheat Narrows above it is a milder float. Albright, Kingwood and Rowlesburg are the towns on the river and Morgantown is the nearest city.
