The Kanawha River forms at Gauley Bridge where the New and Gauley meet and flows about 95 miles northwest through Charleston to the Ohio River at Point Pleasant. It is a commercially navigable river with locks and dams, and it fronts downtown Charleston at Haddad Riverfront Park. Kanawha Falls near Glen Ferris and the sternwheeler traffic during Charleston festivals are the best known river features.
