Elk River Trail State Park is a rail trail of roughly 70 miles following the Elk River on the former Elk River Railroad grade, running from Gilmer County downstream through Braxton, Clay and Kanawha counties toward Clendenin. It is one of the newest state parks in West Virginia and is still being surfaced and connected in sections. The route passes through tunnels, over trestles and along a river known for smallmouth and musky.
