Cheat Lake is a 13-mile reservoir on the Cheat River just east of Morgantown in Monongalia County, formed by the Lake Lynn hydroelectric dam. It is the main boating and waterfront lake for the Morgantown area, and the community around it is directly off Interstate 68 with marinas, a lakeside rail-trail and lakefront rentals. West Virginia University is about ten minutes west and Coopers Rock State Forest, a short drive east.

Cheat Lake

A stone-walled overlook in Coopers Rock State Forest about 1,200 feet above the Cheat River canyon, a short walk from parking off I-68 exit 15. The forest covers roughly 12,700 acres.
