Canaan Valley is a high bowl-shaped valley in Tucker County with a floor near 3,200 feet, the highest valley of its size east of the Mississippi. It holds the Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge, one of the largest wetland complexes in the central Appalachians, plus Canaan Valley Resort State Park, Timberline Mountain and White Grass Ski Touring Center. Davis is a short drive north, Thomas is eight, and Blackwater Falls State Park is a short drive northwest.
