Where to stay for rock climbing near Seneca Rocks
Seneca Rocks is a Tuscarora quartzite fin that rises roughly 900 feet above the North Fork of the South Branch Potomac River in Pendleton County. It is the best known traditional climbing crag in the eastern United States and the only true summit in the East reached solely by technical climbing. The unincorporated community at its base is at the junction of Routes 33, 55 and 28, where the 1.3-mile trail to the observation platform and the Seneca Rocks Discovery Center start. Spruce Knob is well under an hour southwest, and Dolly Sods the same to the north.
Nothing is listed near Seneca Rocks for rock climbing yet. The New River Gorge holds more than 1,400 established routes on hard Nuttall sandstone, and Seneca Rocks is the main eastern multi-pitch trad crag.
