Cass is a former company town in Pocahontas County on the Greenbrier River, preserved as Cass Scenic Railroad State Park. Restored Shay locomotives haul passengers up Back Allegheny Mountain to Bald Knob, the third highest point in the state. The restored company houses are rented as state park lodging, and Green Bank Observatory is a short drive east.

Cass Scenic Railroad
A state park railroad running restored Shay geared steam locomotives on former logging grade from Cass to Whittaker and Bald Knob. The company town of Cass, built in 1901, holds rental cottages.

Green Bank Observatory
Home of the Green Bank Telescope, the largest fully steerable radio telescope in the world, inside the National Radio Quiet Zone. Cell service and wireless are restricted for miles around the site.

Highland Scenic Highway
A 43 mile National Scenic Byway from Richwood to US 219 near Marlinton, including 22 miles of WV 150 through the Monongahela National Forest. Four overlooks sit between 3,000 and 4,500 feet and the WV 150 section is not plowed in winter.
