When it gets busy
| Event | When | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Spring Whitewater Season | Snowmelt and rain-driven, March through May | Demand is short-notice and clusters on weekends when the gauges come up, so Preston County and Fayette County cabins book inside a week rather than months ahead. |
| Ski Season | Mid-December through mid-March, conditions permitting | Weekends and school holiday weeks fill first and carry two or three night minimums, with slopeside condos the first to go. |
| New Year in the Mountains | Christmas week through January 1 each year | Rates run at their annual peak and most properties impose four to seven night minimums over the holiday. |
| Fall Foliage | Peaks in the high country in early October and in the lower valleys in mid to late October | October is the highest-occupancy month of the year statewide, and it overlaps Bridge Day, the Forest Festival and Gauley releases. |
| Leaf Peeping Weekends | Weekends through October | October weekends fill quickly, especially Friday and Saturday nights, while Sunday nights are usually easier to find. |
| Ramp Season | Ramp dinners and feeds through April | Demand is modest and spread across small towns rather than concentrated, but it fills the limited rooms in Richwood, Elkins and Marlinton on dinner weekends. |
