When it gets busy
| Event | When | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| WVU Football Home Games | Six or seven Saturdays from early September through late November | Morgantown sells out for every home game, with two-night minimums and rates several times weekday levels, and the Pitt and other rivalry games are the hardest. |
| Preston County Buckwheat Festival | Thursday through Sunday of the last full weekend in September | Kingwood has very few rooms, so the festival pushes visitors to Morgantown, Bruceton Mills and Oakland, Maryland. |
| West Virginia Italian Heritage Festival | Labor Day weekend | Clarksburg and Bridgeport hotels fill over the holiday weekend, helped along by the I-79 corridor business base. |
| Mountaineer Balloon Festival | One weekend in October | The festival usually shares a weekend with a WVU home game, which is what actually closes out Morgantown. |
| West Virginia Three Rivers Festival | A long weekend in May in downtown Fairmont | Fairmont hotel supply generally holds, but rooms tighten if a Morgantown event lands on the same weekend. |
| West Virginia Wine and Jazz Festival | A weekend in August | It falls before the football season starts, so Morgantown rooms are available but downtown and Suncrest hotels tighten on the Saturday. |
