Slatyfork is an unincorporated community in northern Pocahontas County on Route 219, at the head of the Elk River. It is the closest off-mountain lodging base to Snowshoe, a short drive north, and a long-standing mountain biking hub with access to the Tea Creek and Prop Rock trail networks. The Highland Scenic Highway junction is a few miles south.

Highland Scenic Highway
A 43 mile National Scenic Byway from Richwood to US 219 near Marlinton, including 22 miles of WV 150 through the Monongahela National Forest. Four overlooks sit between 3,000 and 4,500 feet and the WV 150 section is not plowed in winter.

Cass Scenic Railroad
A state park railroad running restored Shay geared steam locomotives on former logging grade from Cass to Whittaker and Bald Knob. The company town of Cass, built in 1901, holds rental cottages.
