New River Gorge Bridge
A steel arch bridge carrying US 19 for 3,030 feet across the New River Gorge, 876 feet above the water. It opened in 1977 and is the site of Bridge Day each October.

Sandstone Falls
The largest falls on the New River, spanning about 1,500 feet and dropping 10 to 25 feet across several channels. A boardwalk from River Road north of Hinton reaches the islands at the lip.

Grandview
A section of New River Gorge National Park north of Beckley, about 1,400 feet above a seven mile horseshoe bend in the river. Its Main Overlook is a short walk from the parking area.

Thurmond
A former Chesapeake and Ohio Railway town on the New River with a restored 1904 depot that serves as a park visitor center. Amtrak still stops here by request.

A preserved coal town site on the New River reached by a narrow road down from Winona. Its standing conveyor and tipple are among the most complete coal loading structures left in the country.
